Basics of Discworld
Ok, time for the utter basics. I hope you've taken me up on my suggestion to give Discworld a try, but if you just want information, that's fine with me.
Communication in Discworld
Tell- <tell (person) (message)>
Most common form of communication in Discworld, it's a private message sent from you to another user. When using tell, only the first name is put into the tell command- ignoring titles and surnames.
Say- <say (message)>
Sends the message to everyone in the room. Used mainly when chatting with people in one of the main idling spots- such as the Mended Drum. Also used to converse with NPCs.
Newbie- <newbie (question)>
Use sparingly. This sends a message to every user who has not specifically earmuffed (blocked) the newbie channel. An easy way to get an answer if you need one, however, repeated use and spamming will be dealt with quickly. Questions about a specific guild, or requests for help, rather than answers, will be directed to your talker. Getting help from the newbie channel requires some coaxing, however. Be polite, and use the best English you're capable of- Capitals, periods, question marks, and even put the apostrophes in the right place. This is a good rule to follow always, by the way. Discworld respects those who can communicate well.
Movement in Discworld
Typical MUD commands are used for moving in Discworld. The exits are listed, and you simply type the desired exit and you will go there. Generally, with the exception of the Newbie Area, the exits will be some of 10 exits: Northwest, North, Northeast, West, East, Southwest, South, Southeast, Up, and Down.
Also, there is the look command, or simply l. This will give a brief description of the room you are in, as well as listing the exits, and any other occupants of the room.
There are various advanced ways to move in Discworld, such as Wizard's Portals, Priest's Passages, and Witches' Brooms. However, as a newbie, you shouldn't worry about these... yet.
Helpful Commands
Score- <score>
Displays a set of statistics about you character. See syntax score for a list of specialized, more detailed score functions.
Skills- <skills>
Shows your characters skills, somewhat abbrieviated. Use skills (subset) for more detailed information about a specific skill set.
Godmother- <godmother help>
Summons your fairy grandmother to take you back to your start location. Can be helpful if you're lost or drowning. As you become higher level, it begins to cost more and more, finally costing a life after level 50. However, you retain your equipment, which is for some people better than a death.
That should hopefully cover the basics of Discworld, if you need additional information or think something else should be covered here, feel free to mail me.
