Final Fantasy III

This is my pick for the best Final Fantasy ever. Sure, I liked FFVII, but it couldn't match FFIII's inventive story, the depth of its characters, or the amazing gameplay. Sure, it doesn't have stunning FMVs, but the graphics were great for the time, and this RPG stands out among the crowd of other Final Fantasy games and a true great.

I mean- everyone loves Sabin. A prince who gave up the throne to become a martial arts master? Who kicks more ass than 10 Bruce Lees? And Mog, the always loveable moogle with the invaluble Moogle Charm, who bosses around a huge Yeti? The characters were great, and not always cool and calm like today's "heroes". They had feelings too, and could be confused, scared, and even seasick!

FFIII pioneered the two-stage game. The happy, carefree World of Balance, and the violent but still hopeful World of Ruin. And the relation between the two was excellent- you only had one chance in the World of Balance, and it could mess up your time in the World of Ruin. No free ability to return to where you started. (Chrono Trigger!)

To sum it all up, FFIII was, is, and always will be an amazing game. It's weathered the test of time far better than most titles, and remains one of the greatest RPGs.
